Nugget # 103 Life is an Acappella!

acapellaHi friends,

Hope you are doing fine. This week I’d like to share a nugget that many of us could relate to. Firstly let’s define what an acapella really is: Acapella according to Internet slang refers to “vocal music without instruments.” The first time I heard this kind of music I was flabbergasted. Since then I have been a big fan of all kinds of acapella music.

Click here to hear the first acapella song I heard. It’s made from an old Hindi film song. The song was brilliantly remade using sounds made by voice, mouth and body only. Can you imagine, there are no musical instruments used in making it! Amazing right? 🙂

This week I’d like to share how much we too are like Acapella singers in our life as we do the many roles handed over to us- a daughter/son, a sister/bro, a spouse, a parent either by choice or chance, a homemaker / a career person, a friend, a writer, teacher, story teller, a cook, a cleaner, a singer, a believer… the list goes on endlessly…. And we can keep adding or subtracting from it. Just like how in acapella, we mainly sing vocals but simultaneously we also imitate the other instruments or sounds to give it the effect of hearing the original track , in life too we may be called to play several other roles in addition to our main role. Just like the acapella singers focus one by one on each sound and then synchronize it with the other sounds similarly we need to give our 100% dedication to each role assigned to us and do it with a spirit of excellence. Later on, we will be able to manage our time and prioritize the things according to their urgency. Sometimes we will have to postpone or even drop some activities from our list in order to live a balanced & stress-free life. Many times we may have to even sacrifice certain privileges just in order to see a smile on another’s face. At these times it may be tempting to ignore ourselves or others, the optimal method is to be able to know when and where to draw the line. Prayer & planning as well as delegation & brain storming with friends & family helps us to do this. Once we have drawn a blueprint, it is essential as far as possible to stick to it. However we need to be flexible enough to incorporate changes as we move along.

downloadThe final result will be the acapella where our different roles are played out successfully & now we can hear the lovely song played in our own unique version. Surely, there will be mixed responses and reactions to the music of our life but as long as we have tried our best and even enjoy or like what we have done, we can lean back and nod our heads to the trendy beat of the song we have always loved!

Nugget #101 Life lesson from a 92 year old woman!

wondaHi friends,

This week, I’d like to share a wonderful poem gone viral on the Internet. Its wisdom from a 92 year old woman. The best part of being ready to learn from her is that we can learn in a few moments what took her 92 years to learn! 🙂

The Giftwrap & the Jewel by Wonda B Goines (https://youtu.be/2YxCR2a-sxI)

“I looked in the mirror and what did I see, but a little old lady peering back at me
With bags and sags and wrinkles and wispy white hair, and I asked my reflection,
‘How did you get there?’
You once were straight and vigorous and now you’re stooped and weak, when I tried so hard to keep you from becoming an antique
My reflection’s eyes twinkled as she solemnly replied, ‘You’re looking at the gift wrap and not the jewel inside.
A living gem and precious, of unimagined worth
Unique and true, the real you, the only you on Earth
The years that spoil your gift wrap with other things more cruel, should purify and strengthen, and polish up that jewel
So focus your attention on the inside, not the out
On being kinder, wiser, more content and more devout
Then, when your gift wrap’s stripped away your jewel will be set free, to radiate God’s glory throughout eternity.'”

Friends, all we have is a maximum of 70 , 80 or at the most 90 odd years. And who has any guarantee of that? If we were to breathe our last breath today, could we say without  a shadow of doubt that our jewel was so well polished that its sparkle actually lit the way for another? Will there be even a single person who would say with tears in their eyes that we had made a difference in their life? Friend, that’s what life is really about! That’s when we have ceased to exist and started to live!

Nugget # 74 Life is an Adventure!

Hi friends,

An adventure is defined as an exciting or unusual experience; it may also be a bold, usually risky undertaking, with an uncertain outcome. This week’s post being Life is an Adventure, I thought I’d go ahead and share something different and special. Given below are a string of quotes/pics related to ADVENTURE. Hope you enjoy the journey! After all, “The best journeys in life are those that answer questions you never thought to ask.”- Rich Ridgeway

Nugget of Life: If you want something you’ve never had, then  you’ve got to do something you’ve never done!

Have an Adventurous week!

Nugget # 68 Life lesson from a Dripping tap!

Hi friends,

Just yesterday I watched my kitchen tap dripping water one little drop after another.I randomly placed a big vessel under it to avoid wastage. Imagine my surprise when I woke up the next morning and found the vessel filled to the brim! On its own, each drop looked harmlessly negligible but consistent dripping over a period of time had made all the difference! The same thing applies to our life. Every small effort towards a certain goal may seem futile of its own but in the long run it works towards the achievement of the goal.

There is a poem I learnt in my childhood that well describes this:

“Little drops of water Little grains of sand Make the mighty ocean And the beauteous land

Little deeds of kindness, Little words of love, Make our earth an Eden, Like the heaven above

And the little moments, Humble though they be, Make the mighty ages. Of eternity.”

Mrs. J. A. Carney (1845)

Friend, is there something that you have been putting off for lack of a chunk of time or for lack of all the resources required to turn your dream into a reality? Why not try using the small pockets of time here and there and the few available resources towards achievement of your goal slowly and steadily? Most probably, before you even know it you will have accomplished that which earlier seemed impossible! Best wishes to working towards making all of your dreams come true! 🙂

Lyrics of the song: “If you want your dream to be, build it slow and surely Small beginnings greater ends Heart felt works go purely If you want to live life free Take your time go slowly Do few things but do them well Simple joy O holy Day by day, stone by stone Build your secrets slowly Day by day you’ll grow too You’ll know heavens glory.”

Nugget of life:Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what? Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.” – Mark Victor Hansen

Have a beautiful weekend,

Cheers,

Nugget # 59 Life is like a strip of Bacon!

“Life is like a fat strip of bacon. You have to separate the meat from the fat in order to be the master of your time.”

Hi friends,

This week let us see how we can compare life to a strip of bacon.

As William Penn once said“Time is what we want most and use worst.” and so we ought to make wise use of it by prioritizing the activities that need our time.

We must ask ourselves the question“What comes first, the compass or the clock? Before one can truly manage time (the clock), it is important to know where we are going, what our priorities and goals are, in which direction we are headed (the compass). Where we are headed is more important than how fast we are going. Rather than always focusing on what’s urgent, we ought to learn to focus on what is really important.“ – Unknown.

Just like a strip of bacon has both fat and meat in it and in order to really enjoy the bacon we first have to separate them, similarly in life we ought to spend our valuable time and precious energy by focusing on the more important activities (the meat) so that we will have no time to waste on the less important ones (the fat).

“Besides the noble art of getting things done, we need to master the noble art of leaving things undone too. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non essentials.”- Lin Yutang

Learning to say NO to the little things in life will give us the power to say YES to the big things.

DocChildre & Howard Martin said-“You’re writing the story of your life one moment at a time.“

Nugget of Life : “Time = life; therefore, waste your time and waste your life, or master your time and master your life.“ – Alan Lakein

Have a wonderful week.

Cheers,

Nugget # 57 Life is a journey!

“Life is a journey, not a destination.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hi friends,

This week I’d like to share with you an analogy of life compared to a journey. We all travel from time to time, sometimes short distances, sometimes long but we always know where we are going and that place is called our destination. Many of us like the kids Kevin and Lindsey in the movie “ARE WE THERE YET?” instead of enjoying the trip, impatiently keep looking out of the window and ask ourselves the same question “Are we there yet?”

In a hurry to reach our destination, we often forget to enjoy the journey. The same thing is applicable to our Life too. Often we hurry through the seasons of our life impatient to arrive and forget to enjoy the present moment.  I love the write up by Robert J Hastings which concludes like this:

The station is an illusion…it constantly outdistances us. So stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, swim more rivers, climb more mountains, kiss more babies, count more stars. Laugh more and cry less. Go barefoot oftener. Eat more ice cream. Ride more merry-go-rounds. Watch more sunsets. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough.- Robet .J .Hastings The Station

We live in an age obsessed with speed and instant gratification. Immediate and instant may not always be best especially when it comes to our speed of life ; we need to slow down and celebrate our life for what it is.To stop and take time to smell the roses in our life. “In fact, our life’s  journey is not to arrive at the grave quiet and safely preserved in a box but rather to skid in sideways, well-used and loudly proclaiming…WOW! What a ride!” – Author Unknown

We can learn a lesson from Beezee Bee who actually takes the time to stop and smell the roses in its life.

Nugget of Life : Life is a journey to enjoy, not  a destination to reach. Live for the journey, you may be amazed at what you discover along the way! 😉

Have an enjoyable week!

Nugget # 46 Life lessons from a Cow!

Hi friends,

We live in an age of instant solutions; a day where “quicker” has become a pseudonym of “better.” We have instant photographs, instant coffee, instant banking, online shopping, instant chatting, live telecasts and even Internet weddings! Instead of the good old home-cooked meals we now have microwave dinners, handwritten love notes are replaced by mechanical text messages, snail mail is practically unheard of as we now have email, parental pep talks for guidance are now replaced by Google time and smileys are exchanged instead of smiles! Come to think of it….we have all ( in one way/other)  become the innocent victims of this dreadful malady : “the hurry sickness” ; the subtle instigator of many of the evils & illnesses in our lives today. The message is loud and clear but often we are too much in a hurry to even stop and listen. This poem I learnt in my school days speaks beautifully a truth we all may need to be reminded of.

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare? –
No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep and cows:
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began?
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
W. H. Davies

Let’s try and make a deliberate effort to slow down, get in tune with nature, laugh some and learn more. Sharing some points I really enjoyed from this write up found circulating the Net via email. Enjoy!

“All I Need to Know about Life I Learned from a Cow”- Author unknown

1. Wake up in a happy mooo-d.

2. Don’t cry over spilled milk.

3. The grass is green on the other side of the fence.

4. Turn the udder cheek and mooo-ve on.

5. Never stoop to a barnyard mentality.

6. Seize every opportunity and milk it for all its worth!

7. It’s better to be seen and not herd.

8. Honor thy fodder and thy mother and all your udder relatives.

9. Munch hay while the sun shines.

10. He who lives with the herd, learns to watch his step.

11. Never take any bull from anybody.

12. Black and white is always an appropriate fashion statement.

13. Don’t forget to cow-nt your blessings every day.

14.Successful people are “moo-vers and shakers.”

15. If you’re feeling low, moo yourself a little song.

Nugget of Life : “Knowing trees, I understand the meaning of patience. Knowing grass, I can appreciate persistence.”-Har Borland

Have an amazing week!
