Nugget # 78 Life is like a Fitting Room!

Hi friends,

This week I’d like to share a thought that came to mind quite recently. Have you ever thought of life as a fitting/trial room? Anyone who loves to shop knows how important a fitting/trial room is in a clothing store can be .

A trial room (try-on room) is a room (with mirrors) in a clothing store where we can try out items of our liking before buying them.

We may like to try something we have never tried before just to see how we would look wearing it.

We may also try something that fits us perfectly but we may not like the color.

We may try something that we love but doesn’t fit.

We may try something the color of which brings out the best in us.

We may try something just because of the feel, the texture.

We may even try on something we cannot afford to purchase then but would love to some day.

We often end up buying only the best of all that we have tried out and we leave the shop happy with our purchase but even happier with the experience.

The same thing applies to life. Change is inevitable in life; things change, people change, circumstances change. Though it is always good to keep up with changes, we may also need to first try and find out whether that change is something we really want or just a passing fascination. Sometimes being open to change is just trying things out like in the trial room so that we can end up paying for and keeping that which we really feel is worth it and leave the rest hanging on the hanger of the trial room. A visit to the trial room always gives us the luxury of making up our minds of whether we want to embrace the change or just let it go. Giving ourselves that freedom always ensures that we leave happy and with no regrets!

Nugget of Life : “Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable.”– Sydney Smith

So go ahead and live life free and with no regrets.

Have a wonderful week!

Nugget # 50 Life is divine chaos!

Hi friends,

Life is divine chaos. First let’s see the more obvious part, the chaos. Chaos is the disorder and confusion in each of our lives or the messy side ;  the bruised knees, disappointments, spilled milk, traffic jams, runny noses, unexpected demise, infirmities, shattered dreams, unkind words,…all of us can add to this list…. However there is also another side to our lives and that is the divine or heavenly side, the lovely side of our lives ; which includes the laughter of family, kisses of children, soothing music, the fragrance of a flower, a well spoken/ written word , cool lemonade, chatting with a friend , fluttering butterflies, answered prayer, an unexpected kindness….this list also goes on. So you see, life is indeed divine chaos. This week I’d like to share this amazingly true but humorous and enjoyable write-up by Larry Harp which challenges us to leave the City of Regret once and for all.

“Of all the words of mice and men, the saddest are, ‘It might have been.’” – Kurt Vonnegut

Leaving the City of Regret – Larry Harp

“I had not really planned on taking a trip this time of year, and yet I found myself packing rather hurriedly. This trip was going to be unpleasant and I knew in advance that no real good would come of it. I’m talking about my annual “GUILT TRIP.” I got tickets to fly there on WISH I HAD airlines. It was an extremely short flight. I got my baggage, which I could not check. I chose to carry it myself all the way. It was weighed down with a thousand memories of what might have been. No one greeted me as I entered the terminal to the REGRET CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. I say international because people from all over the world come to this dismal town.

As I checked into the LAST RESORT HOTEL, I noticed that they would be hosting the year’s most important event, THE ANNUAL PITY PARTY. I wasn’t going to miss that great social occasion. Many of the towns leading citizens would be there.First, there would be the DONE FAMILY, THE SHOULD HAVEs, WOULD HAVEs AND COULD HAVEs. Then came the I HAD FAMILY. You probably know ol’ WISH and his clan. Of course, the OPPORTUNITIES would be present, MISSED AND LOST. The biggest family would be the YESTERDAY’S. There are far too many of them to count, but each one would have a very sad story to share. Then SHATTERED DREAMS would surely make an appearance. And IT’S THEIR FAULT would regale us with stories (excuses) about how things had failed in his life, and each story would be loudly applauded by DON’T BLAME ME and I COULDN’T HELP IT.

Well, to make a long story short, I went to this depressing party knowing that there would be no real benefit in doing so. And, as usual, I became very depressed. But as I thought about all of the stories of failures brought back from the past, it occurred to me that all of this trip and subsequent “pity party” could be cancelled by ME! I started to truly realize that I did not have to be there. I didn’t have to be depressed. One thing kept going through my mind, I CAN’T CHANGE YESTERDAY, BUT I DO HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE TODAY A WONDERFUL DAY. I can be happy, joyous, fulfilled, encouraged, as well as encouraging. Knowing this, I left the City of Regret immediately and left no forwarding address. Am I sorry for mistakes I’ve made in the past? YES! But there is no physical way to undo them.

So, if you’re planning a trip back to the CITY OF REGRET, please cancel all your reservations now. Instead, take a trip to a place called, STARTING AGAIN. I liked it so much that I have now taken up permanent residence there. My neighbors, the I FORGIVE MYSELFS and the NEW STARTS are so very helpful. By the way, you don’t have to carry around heavy baggage, because the load is lifted from your shoulders upon arrival. God bless you in finding this great town. If you can find it – it’s in your own heart – please look me up.  I live on  I CAN DO IT street.”
