One of my close friends recently lost her husband quite unexpectedly. As I tried to comfort her in her grief, I just realized that this life that we all take for granted is truly a GIFT to be treasured and cherished.
A Gift is something that is given to us free and undeserved. And yet how often we look at the greener grass on the other side of the fence instead of enjoying what we have on our side of the fence? And if we are given a chance to get the other side ,we would definitely wish back that which we once had. Doesn’t every unmarried person sometime or other wish for the close companionship of marriage ? Doesn’t every married person sometime in life wish for the freedom of their single days? The unemployed wish they had a job and the employed are waiting for their vacation. The childless couple is frantically trying for a baby and the parent is screaming for some peace and quiet…. Sounds familiar? Well, it should – This is both my story and yours. And the irony of it all is that if by any chance we were granted exactly what we wished for, we would spend the rest of our lives miserable – wishing back what we once had.
It is human nature that we don’t realize the value of something unless we lose it. You know what I am talking about if you have ever searched for a safety pin when you needed one but couldn’t find one. On any other day we would ignore it -so small and insignificant a thing and yet how painstakingly we looked for it when it was not to be found and was needed? Isn’t there a lesson we can learn from this?No matter how small or insignificant a thing it may be in our life,it is ours and so let’s treasure it.For one day we may not have it.
I recently came across this gem as I watched the movie GUZAARISH.
“ Life is very short, my friends. But it is long enough, if you live with all your heart. Break the rules. Forgive quickly. Kiss slowly. Love deeply. Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile.” – Ethan Mascarenhas,GUZAARISH.
These are the magical words spoken by Ethan (the hero) who being immobilized for life by a spinal injury knows very well the value of all the little things that truly matter in this life.
Enjoy this touching Video which reminds us that we have ONE LIFE and we need to make time for the things that truly matter before they are gone and we regret it!
