Nugget # 17 Life is like a flowing river

 Life stands with all she has, her arms open wide welcoming us,  “Come and take as much as you want.”. It is Life’s great tragedy that inspite of her generous invitation,we never listen and seize as much as we can when she beckons to us and yet unfulfilled and dissatisfied, we always fill her ears with complaints when the chance is gone! Whose fault is it actually ? Enjoy this beautiful poem which gives us the same message!

I bargained with Life for a penny  –  by Jessie B Rittenhouse 

I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.

For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid.
